BEAUTY GIRL TALK VISITS MIDDLE SCHOOL 302 In the BRONX

Hi Beauties -

Today I did my third Beauty Girl Talk Self-Esteem Workshop at Middle School 302 in the South Bronx, NY.....I must truely say, I was very impressed with all the young ladies who participated in the workshop today. They were thought provoking, extremely intelligent, well mannered, poised and very creative with their questions. I'm not surprised as this is one of most highly rated academic middle schools in the New York City School District.

These young ladies are participating in the Beauty Girl Talk Essay Contest and will win a chance to have their essays include in my new book as well as a chance of becoming one of three girls that will get a beauty makeover in the salon.

One of the questions that come to mind is, "Why do you always see only skinny girls as models on America's Next Top Models?" Interested question? The young ladies in the workshop ranged from 12 - 14 years old and were girls of color of African American, Carribean and Latina descent. As you can imagine, most of the young ladies are full sized and growing girls with lots of curves. I'm not surprised that they would want to see girls like themselves represented on America's Next Top Model..... Unfortunately....the Fashion Industry, Music Industry and Modeling Industry all strive off each other to create the illusion and fantasy that beauty is only perceived in one way. And only a small percentage of women actually look like models. Now does that mean someone with curves can't be a top model....We'll I believe Toccarra Jones....was one of the first African American full fiqured models to grace ANTM and she's doing great as a model.

She was featured in the all BLACK ISSUE of ITALIAN VOGUE... So you see....Curvy Girls can model too!

You just have to find the right outlet....Lane Bryant, Ashley Stewart and look at Queen Latifah...the Model of her own 'Queen Collection' makeup line with Cover Girl. So, It's not about being too big...it's about being healthy and curvy in all the right places....
